Kanzlerfoto.com - Photography by Mike and Sam Kanzler

Kanzler Foto was born from our passion for cool photography, cool people and having fun! After all... who says having your photo taken has to be boring?

Mike started learning about photography with a thrift store camera as a child.
"My dad was always taking photographs of the family with his 35mm, in fact we had a HUGE box of photos, all taken by my dad, that I would go through at least once a year as a child. So, I decided that I wanted to take my own pictures and I bought a vintage 110 film instamatic camera from the local thrift store."
Photography remained only a hobby until 2002 when Mike and Sam met Orange County artist, musician and photographer Kassel Row.

Kassel and the Kanzler's became instant friends often enjoying pie night at Coco's restaurant. Eventually Mike started assisting Kassel on photo shoots, learning everything he could about professional photography.
"From sometime in 2002 to 2005 I held lots and lots of reflectors and carried plenty of gear, but what I learned about composition, lighting and artistry was invaluable. Kassel was a great friend and a great mentor for me."

In 2006 the Kanzlers relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah and pursuing photography was placed on the back burner. Then in 2009 Mike was given the opportunity to manage a photography studio.
"I knew this opportunity would change everything. I had a really good job with a well respected company, but in my heart I knew that the career path I was on was not what I wanted to do with my life. So I made the leap and chose to finally pursue professional photography as a career."

At the same time Mike started his own freelance photography company while making a name for himself amongst the photography company he worked for receiving recognition as a top 3 finalist in a nationwide photography competition.

Eventually Mike decided that nothing would be better than working alongside his wife, and KanzlerFoto was created.

Our style is a mix of Retro, Modern and Edgy which (if you know us) is totally who we are.

We love good music, good coffee, good tattoos, and goofing off. Sometimes I go on these kicks where I drink lots o' tea, from Earl Grey with a bit of cream to mint tea with two sugars. Sam loves her Doc Marten saddle shoes that I spent months looking for as a Christmas present... mostly out of guilt because I made her throw her old ones away. And even though I have a weird pop music fetish and Sam has a sarcastic sense of humor we get along just fine. - Mike
